Memorial II - Mom

When we were still in primary schools, Mom kept working as part-time sewing worker. At that time, there were still many sewing factories that were in family size. They sub-contracted out some processes to others who had sewing machines at home like Mom. We helped sometimes, of course not sewing, but process those parts manually after Mom stitched up some fabrics. That was pretty interesting for kids. At that time, such kind of activities were not illegal. Now the world changed. Interactions between parents and kids could only be on sports or charity activities.

Then, we were in high school, Mom could spare out some more time. She started to learn different things, like facial make-up and hair dressing. When we were in matriculation, Mom tried to work outside. She worked as a cook in an non-profit organization. Not long later, we were in universities. I believe at that time, Mom was trying to reduce Dad's burden as we were almost ready for studying in universities. We did not try to find out this but the fact is quite obvious.

Luckily, Mom enjoyed such work very well. She really loved cooking. Cooking for bunch of kids and adults was challenging as she needed to buy food and materials in limited time. Worked out some good recipes with good budget. She loved to accomplish challenging jobs.

To be honest, Mom was a very smart woman. Just she did not have the opportunity to have higher education. Those days in Hong Kong, survival was key, earn-for-living was king. If you were rich, that was another story.

Several years later, we all graduated. Sister became a profession. To me, she is a very hard working person. She is smart, but in her world, there were no curve ball. Mom was very glad that she could be a profession. Not long later, she was married to another profession in the same industry. Very well, Mom was totally released to see this. She was so proud of her daughter. Then a year or so later, sister got her little princess. Sister thought it might be good to let Mom help to take care her grand-daughter. But Mom did not want to because she did not want her daughter to be too relying on her, to let her daughter turn into a real position of mother. I did not confirm with Mom on this point, but I believe so.
